The traditional sequence for non-numeric footnote symbols in medical writing (described in style guides such as the AMA Manual of Style) is: * (Asterisk) → † (Dagger) → ‡ (Double Dagger) → § (Section Sign) → ¶ (Paragraph Mark / Pilcrow) → # (Number Sign). If additional symbols are needed, sequence markers are doubled (**, ††, ‡‡). Project style guides always override default sequences.
Consider how footnote markers function on a printed page, digital slide, or editorial document layout. The markers act as visual bridges linking statements in body copy directly to notes placed at the foot of the layout.
“Footnote symbols connect information in the main message to information placed separately from it.”
Note: The statements above are fictional educational wording designed strictly for instructional purposes. They do not represent any real pharmaceutical product, brand, company, or clinical trial.
